Hi friends,
If you're looking to catch a raccoon in the near future I'll be in Florida 3/18-22 and in Kentucky 4/5-8. These aren't performance dates; family business. Catch me in my home range in between.
I'll be just missing my chance to perform at Louisville's Urban Goatwalker:
The Urban Goatwalker Coffee House, Jeff Street Baptist Church, 800 East Liberty Street, Louisville, KY. When: 2nd Saturday of every month at 7:30 p.m. --The Urban Goatwalker Coffee House was established to give homeless individuals and others a safe and enjoyable environment to socialize and express themselves. This is a drug and alcohol free gathering place. Refreshments are served. Everyone is welcome. Contact: Paul Whitely, 502-585-3787.
If anyone knows of open mics and poetry readings in the Louisville area or Tampa area while I'm there, let me know; I'd love to slip in! In the meantime, here's an old highway poem from a Florida trip years ago. To be accurate, on my trip down last month I saw the Hardeeville water tower is no longer painted as a golf ball. Oh well; I guess South of the Border will have to cover my craving for tacky shinies on this roadtrip!
Hardeeville from the Highway
If she and I were trucks,
She'd be local, I'd be one way.
Circling the block
Or spiraling out of orbit,
Everyone runs out of gas...
A prefab on a flatbed
Gets flashing caution escorts--
Birds on a hippo.
But cars are rooms
With no walls,
Hurling unsatisfied...
And a coke and fries
Can be had at every third exit
In any state. Any state.
I'm bored at 10 miles over
The speed limit.
I'm looking for license
Plates that spell words or
The plate from the farthest
State.
The Hardeeville water tower
Is painted as a golf ball.
This I know
Because I was on the highway.
Is there a Hardee's there, she asks.
She'll have to find out herself.
